Mahmooda Khaliq Pasha, PhD, MHS, CPH

Dr. Mahmooda Khaliq Pasha is an Assistant Professor and the Associate Director for the World Health Organization Collaborating Center on Social Marketing and Social Change.  Her current research work is within the fields of social marketing and social epidemiology.  Specifically, understanding the impact of community contextual factors (social determinants of health) on contraceptive use and the application of social marketing to non-communicable diseases.

Currently, Dr. Khaliq Pasha serves as the PI for International Development Research Centre (IDRC) funded project using social marketing to reduce salt intake in Latin America and for the Florida Department of Health funded project conducting a community health needs assessment.  The needs assessment investigates the impact of the built environment on reproductive health and other chronic health conditions.  In addition, she serves as the Deputy Director for Florida Prevention Research Center (FPRC), a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) funded center of excellence.  Her work is within the training and evaluation core, with a focus on implementing and evaluating the Community Based Prevention Marketing for Policy Development framework (CBPM).  CBPM is an applied framework that blends ingredients of social marketing, community based research and the power of local community to bring about social change.    

Previous research has focused on the application of social marketing to intimate partner violence, adolescent pregnancy prevention, and obesity prevention, and the development, implementation and evaluation of behavior change interventions related to family planning/child spacing, HIV/AIDS, child survival and breast and cervical cancer.   

Prior to her work with USF, Dr. Khaliq Pasha worked on a CDC funded evaluation project with the University of Michigan, applying social marketing to the prevention of intimate partner violence; and worked with an international health nonprofit in developing, implementing and evaluating projects on child survival, reproductive health and HIV/AIDS in East Africa and with East African refugee and immigrants.   

Dr. Khaliq Pasha has taught courses in maternal and child health and social and behavioral sciences and currently provides workforce development training on social marketing.
