Charles Haas, Ph.D.

Professor Charles Haas is the Department Head and LD Betz Professor of Environmental Engineering in the department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering at Drexel University. His research focuses on the treatment of drinking water. Specifically, Haas has studied the chemical disinfection processes, inactivation of emerging pathogens by disinfectants and the use of computational fluid dynamics for process modeling. Haas is also an expert in risk management and industrial waste treatment.

Dr. Haas received a BS in Biology from Illinois Institute of Technology, an MS in Environmental Engineering from there also, and a PhD in Environmental Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In 2017 Dr. Haas received the National Water Research Institute’s Athalie Richardson Irvine Clarke Prize for Excellence in Water Research.
